General Information
It comes from the Sino-Tibetan family of languages. It is a language family which includes Chinese, the Tibeto-Burman languages and some of 250 languages of East Asia.
About one-fifth of the people in the world speak some form of Chinese as their native language(more than 1.3 billion).
There are between six and twelve main regional groups of Chinese, among them, the most populous by far is Mandarin, followed by Wu and Cantonese. The standardized form of spoken Chinese is based on the Beijing dialect, a member of the Mandarin group, called as "Standard Mandarin". Standard Mandarin is the official language of the People's Republic of China and the Republic of China on Taiwan, as well as one of four official languages of Singapore.
Mandarin is spoken across most of northern and southwestern China. When taken as an independent language, the Mandarin dialects have more speakers than any other language.
Pinyin is the official Mandarin romanization system for the People's Republic of China. Pinyin is also very commonly used when teaching mandarin in schools and in the universities of North America and Europe.
Chinese dont have a alphabeth. Chinese uses characters which are very different from an aphabeth. Characters generally have 2 parts, one of them represents the meaning, the other one represents the sound.
The most widely spoken language in the world is Mandarin in Chinese. There are 885,000,000 people in China that speak that language.
Chinese characters were invented about 4 500 years ago. Among the writing systems that were in use at that time, only chinese characters are still used. As you know, there are so many different characters. But how do chinese people know the pronounciation of every single character? Unless you have already memorised the pronounciation, you cant be sure of a character's pronounciation by just looking at it. There are app. 9,353 characters in Chinese.
